Mike has recovered from the Parvo and even, on a warm Saturday in January, went for a bike ride - which is precisely what we wanted to have happen! And he just felt out of shape - NOT SICK! Last week his red blood cell count (RBC) almost made it out of the anemic range - better than it has been in two years. His kidney function was better than it has been in NINE YEARS, and finally his white blood cell count (WBC) has tested in the healthy range. I hesitate to make a prediction, but I think things are sloooowly getting back to normal. In reality, it's a new normal. We're adjusting to having to be always vigilant for sources of illness and infection, and the medication schedule will always dictate some of our lives, but what a small price to pay for Mike not actually being and feeling sick ALL the time! With some luck soon he'll be back at work, volunteering to walk dogs, riding a bike on every decent day, snowboarding even, just being Mike.
And, most importantly, Jon continues on as if he never gave up that extra kidney ;)
With never-ending gratitude -
Samantha & Mike
